Gear Lube For Internals

Celsius

Recommended Posts

I was hoping to get a quick response here. Is there a gear lube I could purchase from like Lowes that would be OK to use on the internals of the gearbox... I have no place close to me that sells airsoft goodies like that

No, I repeat, NO PETROLEUM BASED LUBRICANTS.

Find something silicone based.  I've been using Napa Sil-Glyde to lightly coat my gears when they need lube.

Thanks End, I had actual thought about using sil-glyde. I buy it by the case, its awesome for anytime there is metal on metal. I've always used it for brake slides on cars.

Thanks again. Lock or leave it open for further discussion!

I have used Mobil1 Synthetic wheel bearing grease in a pinch. I can personally verify that it works fine on AEG gears, just a little thicker than I prefer for the application. It won't harden up though, won't give you any problems. I normally use Guarder teflon gear grease, and ShockTech oil on the rubber seals. A tub of the Mobil1 grease is about $8, it will last you forever around the shop, also my prefered grease for real AR barrel installs as well.

Also, you can use lithium grease if you can find that, as well.

Also, just as an extra word of caution, don't use anything that has flammable contents in it.  I know that kind of goes without saying, but just FYI.

I found a quick and useful read that could better explain: http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/topic/114544-airsoft-lubricants-silicone-grease-etc/

I use lithium grease. FYI it is a petrol based grease. Haven't had any issues with it though. Wouldn't recommend coating the cylinder with it.

I use a light amount of sil-glyde on gears
and this on the cylinder http://www.ebay.com/itm/Classic-Army-Echo1-JG-Cyma-Tokyo-Marui-piston-cylinder-grease-TEN-TUBES-/291315299052?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43d3beb2ec

I clean my barrels with Dupont teflon silicone  then wipe the barrel dry it still leaves a light coat http://www.ebay.com/itm/Teflon-Silicone-Lubricant-Squeeze-Bottle-4-Oz-Teflon-enhanced-Silicone-/221631421821?pt=US_Cardio_Treadmills&hash=item339a431d7d

I keep the bucking dry  with no oil for better better hop response.

I would like to thank everybody for their input. Please keep commenting. Maybe somebody else would also like to find a alternative.

Something I just thought about....what about Frog Lube? I mean, you can eat the stuff, so I imagine it'd be safe for a gearbox. Probably not as effective as grease, or not as cost efficient, but just a thought.

When I had AEG's I would coat the gears in a spray & bake on moly lube DFL Mc Master #1436K61 looks right but you used to be able to just get a single spray can. White lithium from the hardware store if the GB was noisy with just the molykote, and plumbers silicon grease for the piston and oring (simmilar to this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DANCO-0-5-oz-Silicone-Faucet-Grease-88693/203193536)
