Pistols... Help?

Good Morning!

Ok, Ive been looking around at AirSoft for a while now.  Always kicked around the idea of giving it a try, but then I read around that the Rifles cost big money ($400+) so I never bothered digging deeper.

This of course, was my first mistake.  I wish I had, because I'd probably have been playing YEARS ago.  It was only by blind, dumb luck that I came across a video in my YouTube feed regarding Airsoft (more on that later..) and I was bored, so I did some searching.  Yeah.. I done messed up.  lol.

So I'm jumping in.  I got 1 life on this spinning blue ball, and I want to make sure I do everything I can before it's time to check out. :D

Ive done HOURS of research, watching videos, googling terminology etc.  I feel like Ive got a fairly basic grasp of the concepts.

Now, just so people don't jump ahead of me.. let me say right from the start.. I have ALOT to learn.  Obviously.

Moving on from that, here's what I have so far..

I know we've come a long way already, but let me get to the point of this post.. aka the TL;DR section..

I want to attend an upcoming event, it's Pistols/Shotguns ONLY.  Outdoors, 400fps limit.  (BallahackZ)

I want a GBB, Co2 pistol.  If possible, 2 of them.  (my wife MIGHT go with, but if not, hey, 2 is better than 1 right?  lol.)

Now there's TONS of information about good starter AEG Rifles (Ive already got one picked out.  Lancer M4 Gen 2.)

But there's almost NO really decent info that I can find regarding pistols/Shotguns.  The closest I come up with is "buy this 1911".   There's just 1 problem with that.. I HATE 1911's.  Too big, too heavy, too bulky for my tastes.  Carried a real one for almost a year before I dumped it.  Just thinking about spending money on any kind of 1911 makes my soul cry.  Im also not really a fan of GLOCK.. they can keep their spiky hand grips.  (Carry a S&W M&P 40 w/ Med Grip currently.  Comfy!)

Here's the 2nd pickle.. I have large hands.  So "compact" pistols result in my pinky and half my ring finger dangling off the grips.

Im looking for input on something that's reliable, GBB, Co2, and is NOT a Glock, 1911 or Compact.  Must be under 400FPS  w/ a .20g bb.

Ive looked around, and sure, the stores tell me every gun I look at is "super amazeballs awesome!"..  but I prefer actual customer opinions.

Im also a COMPLETE newbie when it comes to AirSoft, so telling me "Oh buy X and upgrade the internals with Y and Z"..  well, let's just say Im not there yet.

Thank you for sticking with me this long!  It's really appreciated.

John

PS - If someone happens to know of an excellent shotgun, feel free to post that too.  gotta be 3/6 though.  Zombies be crazy after all!  (surprising really how LITTLE shotgun information is out there too btw.)

Hidey ho, neighbor. Welcome to airsoft.

I can tell you right now from some cold experience that https://www.evike.com/products/60167/

Are the best tri shot blasters for your dollar. Spring, specifically. If you feel inclined, you could go for the full metal versions of any of the listed models, for a few dollars more. I have had the short pistol-grip one for, oh, 2-ish years, and is reliable as all get out.

As for handguns, I too, have bear claws and have personally settled with the Elite Force H8R. Most skirmishable revolver ever. Lack of a hop up is it's only real con.

Hope what paltry info I have shared may be of assistance.

This is an excellent post. I’ve been known to use a handgun fairly well. I’m also happy to see that Red 2 has responded because when I was reading your post he immediately came to mind.

Man pistols and shotguns are tricky when it comes to Airsoft. Both have improved vastly over the last 5 to 10 years. But they still leave much to be desired. They haven’t quite evolved as much as AEGs and things have.

A lot of it is trial and error. And luck. I have been VERY lucky with my pistols over the years. Performance wise they are all comparable. It’s the reliability and upgradeability that separates good from not so good. You may want something that is compatible with various upgrade parts, some brands are proprietary. And of course personal preference. What you think will fit your hands or you wanting C02 VS green gas or whatever also limits your choices. Keep in mind things like mag capacity or even the price of spare mags if you need them.

You may have to use something a little uncommon like USP, revolvers, FN 5.7, or whatever if you don’t want a 1911, Glock, Beretta.

Brands like TM, KJW, Elite Force, and a few others have a good reputation for pistols. But good luck with whatever you choose. The important thing is just getting out to play Airsoft.

I started with a pistol and used it exclusively for the first year I played. It was a SW M&P9 GBB CO2. I still have it, and it's probably the most reliable airsoft gun I've owned. I also now have a WE hi-capa and love it too but it doesn't work well below 60-ish degrees. It's on the 1911 platform which I'm not crazy about but it has a 27 round mag and can also take CO2 mags so there's that.
