Avalanche
Hi guys I just have a couple general questions about NVGs and the G&P Dbal, since both can run in conjunction to each other and benefit from each. Does anyone here run NVGs for night games? If you do, do you think it's worth it? Any other thoughts on NVGs? Any feedback on the G&P Dbal infrared laser and illumination or is a regular red/green laser more conventional?- Thanks
Nox
I have seen many posts on forums from people saying the Dbal is one of the best PEQ boxes you can use, other than that I can't say much about it. I have never tried NVGs and have never ran with someone that did, but personally i feel like the amount of players that use flashlights in night games would make NVGs kind of risky to use. I suppose if you were at a game where the players were aware of night vision users and tried not to shine flashlights around then it would be worth picking up
Sky Marshal Harvest
I have had the opportunity to play with some extremely, and I do mean extremely high end, and non-retail NODs. While I'm not an expert, I'd like to offer some advice.I would suggest, unless someone is just giving them away, not spending cash on gen 1s or gen 2s. They really have shit power and capability unless you are using an IR illuminator, and then, its limited utility. This brings me to a second point, that, if you are around someone who IS using gated/Gen III/+ devices, and you are using an IR lum/laser, they are going to detest you, because you are going to be making so much IR flood that you are going to A) wash their NODs out, and if anyone else that isnt you is using nods, you are going to be putting a giant 'come fuck my face' beacon right above wherever you are at, at all times. Seriously, you will be essentially saying 'here is my booty, come put things in it'. You will glow like a light stick in the middle of a pitch black room, to anyone else using nods. This all being said, I have a G&P DBAL in FDE, and it's a great piece of kit.Keep in mind the application of an airsoft DBAL and the BB war ones, do not carry over in application. It's largely cosmetic. Also, the lower end NODs are going to have questionable, if any weather proofing.I would highly suggest spending the money you would on lower tier NODs/DBALs, on a good pair of boots and goggles if you are not totally squared away there. Or magazines, speed loaders, hell a GoPro will give you more use than a lower tier set of NODs.

To be honest with you, I would never probably run with NODs due to the price and there just isn't that many games that require them.
Zigg
Nods are nice when: 1. You are not moving and wish to see what is around you/observe an objective from an ORP 2. Use IR lights to keep track of people 3. Use IR lasers to shine down things you are discreetly trying to point out 4. CQC in dark rooms/night (Still takes a LOT of practice to home this skill) NODS in the woods suck. I mean they help a bit but are annoying, the lack of depth perception can literally get you hurt in some places, and the extra weight dragging down your headgear you are wearing just ticks... lol Nice, but for moving around, i still prefer letting my eyes adjust to night. Ziggy's opinion.
SASQUATCH
NODs are a cool thing to play with, but not fun at all to use in any serious capacity. If you're on line, and advancing towards a somewhat sedentary target, sitting in some kind of LP/OP, or on a casual stroll with your bros at night...they're not bad. As soon as you start moving quickly, running, maneuvering through literally any kind of uneven terrain...they become not fun. I've seen so many dudes get straight wrecked on patrols, or while doing MOUT. Broken ankles, legs, arms, teeth knocked out, etc. And those are dudes who have lots of hours in night ops. Not to mention how disorienting and annoying it is to have zero depth perception, limited ability to distinguish anything from anything, and constantly having to re-adjust your helmet, or rhino horn because your NODs are constantly shifting. All of that for several thousands of dollars for halfway decent PVS-14s, which is pretty much the cheapest-non-shitty night vision you're gonna find. I don't recommend it. The only thing you'll gain in an airsoft setting is a bunch of 13 year old boys drooling over how cool you look.
