I Like The Smell Of Bacon In The Morning.

Nightkolm

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon everyone, pleasure to meet you all and to make your acquaintance(s). Well first things first, mind the title. . . I'm hungry. I don't have a Call-sign as of yet, reason being I'll state later, but I usually like to go by Nightkolm, it's an account name I came up with back when I was 10 and playing on the RTS game Warcraft III. My actual name is Todd. I currently own no actual guns besides a spring load MP5K and spring M1911 a friend's roommate gave to me a couple months ago. The M1911 (I think that's what it is, don't quote me on that) is up in Michigan along with it's one magazine, so I do not have access to it, and the MP5K (also unsure if that's the actual variant designation for it) is somewhat broken/not in high quality. The reason being it fell down a floor and landed on tiles, the magazine for it broke completely, so it's basically inoperable. Besides all of that I am basically a Fresh-Blood, a new guy, the resident Noob basically.

Just a bit of a joke in my expense, though obviously after stating that, that means I have next to no actual experience in playing Airsoft with any actual group besides back when I was 8, and playing with my brothers. . . I was the Target Dummy in all sense of that word. So far I've done a brief search throughout the forums and got the basis of how to act, and how to not act. (I got a good few chortles from all of that)

Questions:

1.) Honestly I haven't really looked extensively on what kind of equipment is better than others, so it would be great to have a few pointers on what I should look around for in regards to gear , or more importantly, guns.

2.) I noticed there was a bunch of events going on this month, but I am extremely ill-equipped. Is it okay, or even possible, to head on to one of these events (besides the one specifically for noobs) and get my feet wet so to speak? or will they deny me entrance since i have none of the necessary gear?

3.) In relations to the above, if that is not possible, could i just come out to watch and observe first-hand what it's like? I've seen numerous videos of events like them but I really want to go to one soon. My anxiousness is eating me alive.

4.) Would anyone be willing to show me the ropes within the next few days if they're available so i have a good basis prior to an event? I do better hands-on than just reading.

5.) Was this a good first impression? Kinda worried about this one.

If I can think of any more questions, I'll edit the post and put them in (That is, if you guys will allow it)

Welcome!

I'll let the more experienced speak for other points, but for 2, outside of milsim events nobody really cares what you bring, and you don't need a whole lot to have a good time.

Boots, gun, goggles, mask, maybe some antifog for goggles. That covers the essentials.

Questions:

1.) Honestly I haven't really looked extensively on what kind of equipment is better than others, so it would be great to have a few pointers on what I should look around for in regards to gear , or more importantly, guns.

For starters, welcome to the forums! My name is Snuffles and for brevity's sake I'll probably end up calling you 'Night' or 'Night Night' when it gets closer to bedtime. I've lurked around here for a few years now and only just started posting in 2016, so I'm not the best at the in-depth advice, but let me get you started.

In terms of gear first and foremost, you need some eye / face protection, a red "kill" rag, and some good boots or shoes (all-terrain preferably, don't go with sneakers or rain boots). Secondary-to-have in my opinion includes knee pads and gloves because kneeling down on a sharp piece of rock or getting shot in the hand are some of my worst moments.

In terms of guns, general consensus is the G&G Combat Machine (CM) series of rifles if you like M4s or CYMA's line of AKs if you want to get on the good side of our resident pro-Russian group of Commie scum players. If you're like me and want to stand out on the battlefield (i.e. reee_normies.wav), there's everything from battle rifles (M14, G3) to PDWs (MP7, P90) and bullpups (AUG, FAMAS) replicated for airsoft. I would highly reccomend you DO NOT start with an LMG (heavy, high maintenance) or a sniper rifle (that $200 M24 you saw online does not have the mandatory $1,000 in upgrades to make it viable, and sniping is a low-kill-yield playstyle).

Like cars, airsoft is brand-loyal at most times. The G&G M4s and CYMA AKs I mentioned are like Hondas or Toyotas: they work out of the box, require little maintenance, and are reliable enough to get a new driver on the road. You also have the higher end M4s (G&P, Krytac) along with many other makes and models out there, but obviously they cost hella dollar. Before you go out and buy ANYTHING, obviously read up on reviews as much as possible. With a community like AI here, you also have a plethora of people you can talk to face-to-face to get some more reliable and first-hand advice. If you're deemed responsible and respectful enough, some guy may let you borrow their rifle for a bit. Normally I'd lend out my UMP or MP5 but I'm loaning one out for the next few games on the calendar.

2.) I noticed there was a bunch of events going on this month, but I am extremely ill-equipped. Is it okay, or even possible, to head on to one of these events (besides the one specifically for noobs) and get my feet wet so to speak? or will they deny me entrance since i have none of the necessary gear?

As long as you have your eye / face protection, a gun that meets the FPS limits, and the integrity to play fair and listen up: you're good. Again, some (not all) people can lend you whatever you may need. I've borrowed BBs, speedloaders, batteries, and none of it would be possible without some human kindness from both ends, for which I'm extremely grateful for. Just remember that when you see someone who was in those same shoes when you're older, repay that.

3.) In relations to the above, if that is not possible, could i just come out to watch and observe first-hand what it's like? I've seen numerous videos of events like them but I really want to go to one soon. My anxiousness is eating me alive.

Don't observe: do. Real soldiers go through their training yes, but they don't just chill in the Humvee on patrol in the sandbox with no weapons and *observe* their fellow squad-mates getting shot at. Once again, there will most definitely at least be one generous fellow willing to lend you a Mosin with a clip of ammo and a bottle of vodka to defend the Motherland.

4.) Would anyone be willing to show me the ropes within the next few days if they're available so i have a good basis prior to an event? I do better hands-on than just reading.

Go to Noob Day. If you don't have time make some, because while you can still learn during a regular game, this one is designed with people like you in mind.

5.) Was this a good first impression? Kinda worried about this one.

A good 1 in every 3 or so people I've met so far are quirkier than you my friend. Better to have some sort of personality than to be the boring guy at school who rambles on about his bug collection or something.

If I can think of any more questions, I'll edit the post and put them in (That is, if you guys will allow it)

Again, welcome to Airsoft Indiana, enjoy your time here, call your hits. ;)

Thank you guys very much for the feedback about all of that, really. Now all I need to do is get the money for the necessities and i'll be golden... Thing is how i'll save up with having to pay bills.  :frantics: I digress though, if any of you all will be at Noob Day then you will more than likely see me. I will be the fat guy wondering where the fuck to go.  :P

And I'll most likely be wearing my signature white plaid shirt unless I can find a way to fit into my new BDU if you have more questions. Best part about this community is putting faces next to usernames.

Nightkolm, your anxiousness is normal. You seem to genuinely care whether you will make a good first impression. Like Snuffles said ''call your hits''. Your level of integrity matters. Calling your hits will definitely make a good impression on you! Show up at games! Make yourself known to others. Welcome to Airsoft Indiana!

I wouldn't expect anyone to be selling goggles out of the blue, but we did have a B/S/T game some weeks ago. Just find a nice pair via Amazon Prime or something (because shipping). Otherwise someone may have a spare pair of eyepro.

Alright thank you, i guess i'll be riding on the hope of people having a bunch of spare things on saturday, i don't get paid till next week sadly and i used up almost all of my money on bills. So even if i wanted to get goggles now, I do not have enough to purchase them. If not I guess i'll just watch on Noob day. I'll be honest as well, i'm going to be extremely shy when getting there because of there being so many people i don't know and rather not screw up first impressions.

Chill, we're all adults that like to play with toy guns in the woods and dress like soldiers. Don't be shy in a group that should feel similarly awkward to some degree.

But... I love my bug collection.

In all seriousness, if you are close to Indy and can make it out to a game in McCordsville I'd be happy to show you the ropes.

Welcome to the forum, I always bring an extra kit to games and others are happy to bring new players some loaner gear. Just post up in the event thread about if anyone will have extra gear and I'm sure someone could help you. Hope to see you on the field! Ps. McCordsville is a great place to go if you're looking to play a relatively chill game

I actually live in North Western Indianapolis right now, so McCordsville is only about 40 minutes away. I would love to come on out and get the ropes shown to me! Just need to find out the dates of the next game is all now.
